Character-Specific Endings
Sayori's Ending
(Note: This isn't necessarily an ending to the game, just more than the events that lead to the end of her life. Information technology is an unavoidable event.)
Sayori's catastrophe happens halfway through the game. It marks the cease of Human action 1. Regardless of the protagonist's choices, related to Sayori or not, earlier in the game, what the role player sees will be the aforementioned: Sayori will be hanging past a noose from her cervix upon entry.
When the protagonist enters her room, the game will offset glitching out and the music volition heavily be distorted, playing the vocal "Sayo-nara", a distorted version of the card theme. The protagonist thinks to himself that this is his mistake, that she is gone forever and that choosing the other option when hearing Sayori's confession would take prevented this. When the game forcibly brings the players directly dorsum to the menu, the consequence is Sayori being switched with a scrambled up mess of each of the other graphic symbol's sprites where she used to be. The "New Game" option will likewise exist replaced with a line of glitched and distorted text, but its functionality remains the same. Monika will later state in Human activity 3 during her conversation with the player that Sayori's easily were encarmine because her hanging did not kill her instantly, having stepped from a chair instead of a higher place, the latter which would accept made her expiry quick and painless. Instead, she slowly asphyxiated, and during this fourth dimension tried to scratch at the rope in a vain effort to free herself, bloodying her hands in the process. Monika believes that this is considering of Sayori either changing her heed a few seconds besides late, or perhaps it was just her survival instincts kicking in.
When she is seen hanging, Sayori does not article of clothing the outfit that she wore on Day 4, merely instead she wears a white jacket and ruby-red shorts. At that place are black shadows under her eyes, and her skin has a pale, sickly tone. The blood on her easily has dried a piffling and turned a rusty dark-brown. This suggests that Sayori hanged herself very early on Solar day 5, which has been confirmed by Dan Salvato in his Twitter.[1]
Natsuki's Ending
(Note: This isn't necessarily an ending to the game. However, this is an optional result, and the game continues ordinarily like it never happened, so Natsuki doesn't stay in this land.)
Natsuki's "ending" will happen in one case the protagonist writes two poems for Natsuki in the first two days of Act 2. Information technology takes place on Day 3, in the poem sharing time. When the protagonist shares his verse form with Natsuki, she will complain that he has been spending also much time with Yuri and not enough time with anyone else. Natsuki'southward optics and oral fissure volition begin to glitch out and volition be covered with shifting black pixels. She will then brainstorm to cry blood, all while the screen slowly tints to a dark red and a distorted version of "Okay Everyone!" plays over the scene.
She will proceed rambling on and on that she is lonely and that the protagonist needs to spend time with her. So she stops talking equally the music cuts off, and for a short moment, the room will be filled with silence. She will and so snap her neck to the correct side of the screen at a 90° bending, and then quickly motion towards the screen. A blackness screen will show with the word "END" flipped backwards before the game resumes and restarts as if nothing happened, with Natsuki still in the game.
Yuri's Ending
(Annotation: This isn't necessarily an ending to the game, but more the events that lead to the end of her life. It is an unavoidable event.)
Yuri's ending happens after she shows her final poem to the protagonist during Act 2. Yuri confesses that she is in love with him. Regardless of whether players cull to accept her confession or not, she will stab herself with a kitchen knife three times. The player is then forced to spend the weekend in the club room with her corpse, staring at her every bit the lighting in the room changes, the blood color darkens to indicate the passage of fourth dimension, and her small smile slowly shifts to a slight frown, while the dialogue box displays over 1400 lines of random gibberish. It is later revealed by Monika that the whole weekend was running on a "broken script", to which she apologizes. On the PS5 and PS4 versions of DDLC+, this ending is slightly altered, instead of having red blood spilling out when Yuri stabs herself, black ink-like blood will exist spilled out instead. However, the following scene with Yuri's corpse is unchanged. This was done to satisfy Sony Interactive Amusement'due south policies[2].
Monika's Ending
(Annotation: This isn't necessarily an ending to the game, simply more the events that lead to her deletion. She stays hidden in the game after this, only she doesn't manifest herself until the end. Information technology is an unavoidable effect.)
Monika's ending starts later the weekend is spent with Yuri's corpse, at which point Natsuki finds the protagonist with Yuri'south body in the class, before promptly airsickness and running away. Upon entering, Monika will apologize for the inconvenience, then delete Natsuki and Yuri from the game. She then begins Human activity iii after getting a cupcake from Natsuki (with her name now jumbled up and distorted)
The screen volition go black afterwards and soon show Monika sitting at a table in the now empty classroom, with her hands tented under her chin and a space-like background. Monika volition so explicate her motivations for her actions and confess to manipulating the game in order for the player to be left lone with her. A few of her lines indirectly instruct the actor to delete her graphic symbol past explaining how she deleted everyone else.
After her monologue, Monika will say that she has to do something quick and that, in the meantime, they tin can stare into each other's eyes. Monika will then at sure intervals of time speak to the player most matters that commonly concern the game (list of Monika's topics). The player is at present free to delete Monika's character by accessing the game'southward files (or allow Monika to continue speaking for an eternity, though she will somewhen run out of lines and repeat old ones). If the role player decides to delete Monika from the game, Monika will and then glitch out, before becoming disembodied and angrily expressing her disgust at the histrion. She volition and then merits that she made a mistake and express her regret at what she has done to her friends. Monika and so reveals that she couldn't notice it in her to delete her friends, due to her dearest for them and the Literature Social club. Coming to a determination, she will add all characters back into the game except herself (though she remains a disembodied entity).
Game Endings
Normal Ending
This catastrophe will happen if the player didn't salve-scum to spend time with all of the girls during Act 1. It'south unremarkably the first catastrophe players go through while playing Doki Doki Literature Club! blindly.
In Act four, subsequently starting a new game, the game appears to be normal, upwardly until Sayori addresses the thespian at the end of the mean solar day, thanking them for deleting Monika. At this, Monika comes to the realization that whatever grapheme who falls into the president role volition go self-aware and find out that Doki Doki Literature Club is really just a game and that the characters take no free volition. Because of this, Monika "deletes" everything as the credits scroll. It's worth noting that any CG that the thespian never viewed is rendered in greyscale. Equally the credits begin and continue, Monika sings her self-written song "Your Reality" with her piano, which can be heard by the player equally the only confirmed vocalisation in the game. After then, Monika leaves a note on the thespian's screen. At this point, to play the game again, players will have to delete and reinstall it, or they tin merely delete the "firstrun" file in the game binder and select "Aye" upon opening up the game once again. For Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! players will need to run the reset.sh file located in the files of the built-in Bone.
Good Ending
This ending can only exist seen if players see all 9 of the CGs (event images) of the three girls in Act 1 (three for each girl) by creating poems for them, as well as Monika's Human activity 3 CG. Ane of the possible methods that tin exist washed to get this ending is saving at the first poem, making all the poems specific to one girl, then before witnessing Sayori'due south suicide where the saves are then deleted, go back to the first poem relieve and echo the procedure with a different girl. Later on Sayori, Yuri, and Natsuki's CGs have been seen, the game can be continued normally. Players also have to be careful not to delete Monika too early in Act three, because if they do and so without seeing the CG, the game will not count information technology equally seen and they will just see the Normal Ending.
After Monika restarts the game without herself present, Sayori volition gain the cognition Monika had from her position as the president of the lodge, similarly to the normal ending, only will instead give thanks the player for trying to brand all the girls happy. Sayori thanks the role player for playing, and the credits will coil, simply the images will not be deleted. The other game files will be deleted still, and the actor must delete the firstrun file or reinstall the game to play again. Players will then get a cheers letter from the developer, which also contains a basic summary on his initial inspiration for the game itself and why he made it instead of the bloodshot letter from Monika.
Letter from the developer
To the special histrion who achieved this special ending.
For years, I have been enamored by the ability of visual novels - and games in general - to tell stories in ways not possible using traditional media. Doki Doki Literature Club is my love letter to that. Games are an interactive fine art. Some let you explore new worlds. Some challenge your mind in broad new ways. Some brand you feel like a hero or a friend, even when life is hard on y'all. Some games are but plain fun - and that'due south okay, besides.Anybody likes different kinds of games. People who savour dating sims may have a heightened empathy for fictional characters, or they might be experiencing feelings that life has not been kind enough to offer them. If they are enjoying themselves, and so that's all that matters. That goes for shooting games, casual games, sandbox games - anything. Preferences are preferences, and our differences are the reason nosotros have a thriving video game industry. My own favorite games have always been ones that claiming the status quo. Even if not a masterpiece, any game that attempts something wildly different may earn a special place in my heart. Annihilation that further pushes the limitless bounds of interactive media.
I extend my true gratitude to all those who take taken the time to achieve full completion. I promise y'all enjoyed playing it as much as I enjoyed making information technology.
Thank you for beingness a part of my Literature Society!
Love,
Dan Salvato
Quick Ending
If Monika'south character file is deleted (as explained in Monika'south Ending) earlier starting a new game in Deed 1, Sayori appears to realize that she is trapped in a game and yells "Delight Make It Stop!". She will then force the game to shut and delete the other grapheme files. If the player opens the game after this occurs, instead of the usual opening and main menu, a black "END" screen appears followed by a grayscaled screen of Sayori hanging herself. After x minutes pass, a bulletin written in Sayori's handwriting appears on screen: "Now everyone tin can be happy."
An even shorter version occurs if Sayori's grapheme file is missing when launching the game with save data from the showtime human action. Upon launch, the game simply skips immediately to the same series of screens, the "Terminate", followed by Sayori hanging herself.
