Continuous Trap Card to Stop Spells

I have a question about negating the effects of continuous spells and traps. With continuous trap cards, are you able to negate their activation only upon the initial activation, or can you still negate it upon a later activation? For example, are you able to use a card such as "Solemn Judgment" or "Dark Bribe" against "Royal Oppression" only upon it's initial activation when it's flipped, or are you still able to negate and destroy it at a later activation?
Also, on the wiki page about continuous spell cards, it says that there effects do not start a chain, which would mean that other than the initial activation, any use of it's effects later on are unable to be chained to. I was wondering if that applies to all continuous spells, or if that is only a generalization? For example, "Call of the Mummy" or "Gateway of the Six", those have effects that can be triggered at a later date after it's activation, are those effects unable to be negated with "Solemn Judgment" or "Dark Bribe" since the effects of a continuous spell apparently don't start a chain? --Jon58840 04:09, April 3, 2010 (UTC)
- If it says "Negate the Activation", it means, negate the card when it's first placed face-up onto the field.
- Actually, I'm not certain on this since Stardust Dragon can negate Ancient Forest Falzar FZ 04:16, April 3, 2010 (UTC)
Well, the activation page says and I quote: "To activate an effect is to have the effect start a Chain Link. This goes for Effect Monsters, Spell Cards, and Trap Cards." the effect of a continuous trap can start or be part of a chain, but the continuous spell card page says that continuous spells don't start chains. I really hate how fuzzy the term is. --Jon58840 04:20, April 3, 2010 (UTC)
Yea, I read that, but I have never heard of anyone being able to negate the activation (with cards like Dark Bribe), of 'Ignition' like Effects of cards like "Call of the Mummy". Which kinda contradicts with Stardust being able to negate the 'Trigger' like Effect of Ancient Forest. Your term of generalization may be correct. Falzar FZ 05:35, April 3, 2010 (UTC)
- In general, Continuous Trap Cards have Continuous-like effect that don't activate. However, there are Continuous Traps which have effects that activate. It's kinda like Field Spell Cards - most have Continuous-like effects (like "Umi"), but there are some with effects that activate (like "Black Garden").
- Currently, all Counter Traps can only negate the activation of a card; this is when the card is initially flipped face-up. It can't be used against the activation of an effect. If an effect negates the activation of an effect (like "Stardust Dragon" or "Tytannial, Princess of Camellias"), then it can negate both.

Thanks. What would happen in the event of Call of the Mummy VS Royal Oppression though? AFAIK Royal Oppression can only directly oppress the special summoning of a monster if it's an inherent effect, and in most other cases, oppresses the effect of the card that special summons and not the monster itself such as Call of the Haunted, but since according to the wiki, continuous spells do not start a chain, would Royal Oppression be able to stop Call of the Mummy? --Jon58840 05:58, April 3, 2010 (UTC)
- Call of the Mummy's effect "activates". Royal Oppression can be chained to an effect that activates and it can Special Summon a monster, so you can chain Royal Oppression's effect to Call of the Mummy's Ignition-like effect and negate it. ATEMVEGETA (Talk) 09:19, April 3, 2010 (UTC)
